Shiv - Fiction (novel)

I believe this book, at 659 pages, may count as the single largest piece of fan fiction for SLA Industries of which I'm aware.  It started with a request from my husband/GM to write a short backstory for my character, since it was the first time I was playing SLA (at last! I had wanted to play in a game for years.)  That "short backstory" soon blossomed into a novella 150 pages long; mostly it was done as entertainment as well as a way to express a quickly growing love for the setting in general and the Wraith Raiders in particular. It opened up a spigot of inspiration and creativity, and essentially shattered a 7-years writer's block.

With the encouragement of a few fellow fans--and some who'd never heard of SLA but liked the stories anyway--I added to that first novella, continuing the story.  It was composed in pieces over two years, with long story arches that blended together chronologically until it finally total the story of one short lifetime in the World of Progress:  that of Shiv, my Wraith Raider.  I used the official releases as well as fan material from John Dodd and Max Bantleman to help form a broader picture for Wraith Raiders and for Polo and....well, invented or developed the rest as it made sense to me, which included developing the sexuality of the race quite a bit beyond where most references stop.  Overall, the response from other fans for that development has been of excitement, curiosity, and approval.  (Thank goodness. ;) )

With the challenge in December 2009 for the Drops of Blood supplement, I finally got the impetus necessary to finish one more story, "Black 43", the Black BPN that was supposed to happen as part of the first game but never did, and that several readers had commented was "missing" because events skipped right over it.  I have finally, after two years, filled that one hole in the plot line, and revised and updated my novel.  For all intents and purposes, it is finished at last!  (And most would probably agree that 650+ pages is plenty long enough....)

My thanks to the Silent for this fan archive where I can post my magnum opus, for the perusal and interest of present and future fans. And my added thanks to Jack Darke for providing truly helpful feedback; because of him, I added a "Foreword" at the beginning that may explain a few quirks about the arrangement of the book.
