Description:
Search and seize all illegal weapons in civilian block(s) 1012/1013, DT sector 752. Encourage cooperative behaviour. Contact Greg Wood at dept. of firearms regulatory service.
Foreword by the Author:
I recommend this as your squads first BPN, especially if it´s their first time playing SLA. Although you could easily bump up the Cal on those guns, and make it a lot more dangerous. The reason for this recommendation is that this BPN serves pretty well as a mood setter for the WoP (at least mine, which emphasizes on the feeling of oppression and despair – dark as hell, without being supernatural). I´ve written the BPN as a series of events. Feel free to alter, add or choose the things you like – Have Fun
Prologue:
Greg Wood (naive, altruistic, optimistic up-town corporate) briefs the squad at the dept. They are to seize all illegal firearms and ammunition in civilian apartment block 1012 and 1013 plus the streets surrounding these, in downtown sector 752. For the last week the dept. has been running a campaign, where the residents of the sector could anonymously hand in their guns at the local SHIVER station (surprisingly enough, no one has actually taken advantage of this fine opportunity). Greg clearly hasn´t got any kinda idea what downtown is like; he even expects full cooperation from the populace. Before they leave he tell the squad to report at the SHIVER station when they get there, and reminds them that they have to apply for the search warrant (this could take time...like... a lot).
At the SHIVER station our squad is greeted by Capt. Hyde Jefferson (rough, honest, to the point), who is genuinely glad to see something being done about the sectors problems – his own son (also SHIVER) was gunned down in the sector just a year ago. He makes it perfectly clear that he won´t mind the use of excessive force; He will even recommend it. This sector is in so deep, that the SHIVERs are pinned down at the station half the time, and SLA has even considered enforcing marshal law on several occasions.
The scene:
Sector752: Lower downtown sector. The majority of the populace is on SLA welfare (40u/week – yay!). KT Clutch is the local branch of the gangs, who holds power of the territory. DN also got a little activity.
Block1012/1013: Every block has 4 flights of staircases, each with 25 floors and 6 apartments on each floor (2*4*25*6= 1200 doors to knock, with 4 residents on average, get cracking).
During their BPN, which should take a week or so, they collect:

| DN80 | 23 | 10mm | 1756 |

The Events:
-Colleagues: this particular BPN has got quite a few slops attached. They aren´t making searches in every apartment block – just the worst. If you want to introduce a fellow squad to your players, that they might befriend and make contacts with, this is a good time. They could get phoned by one such squad, offering to meet up to talk tactics at a local coffee shop – besides, they got nothing to do while they wait for their warrant to clear, anyway. When I ran this BPN, I also took the opportunity to show the fatality in SLA. One of the members of this NPC squad went out to stretch his legs, while the rest was still in the coffee shop. Unfortunately he fell to a sniper round. Fantastic way of showing new players that this isn´t D&D – headshot means dead as Elvis.
-Princess of Porn: In one of the smallest apartments, they are greeted by the mother of the family. The father is long since dead, and they merely scrape by. The oldest brother willingly gives up his illegal sidearm, and admits to his gang relation. He´s a smart kid, but someone has to bring in money, so he peddles drugs on the streets. The entire family now devotes their hope to the youngest sister - a bright kid of 7 years, with good grades and proper manners. They all spoil her, and try their best to spare her the horrors of downtown. The mother sleeps in the kitchen and the boy in the hallway, just so the girl can have her own room. It´s fully princess-themed, filled with SLArbie Dolls, and painted pink…only one thing scorns the eye. The TV-set on the wall shows Alien Sex Channel 24-7. The remote has been missing ever since they moved in, and since it´s SLA, you can´t turn the bloody thing off.
-Peashooter: When they knock the door bullets starts flying though. The first shot hits whoever is standing in front. A Detect check is required to recognize the sound (and thus the caliber) of the gun. Inside the apartment is a 4 year old terrified boy holding a CAF Steel Death. His mother told him to never open the door, while she was out working the streets. He´ll only fire 1-3 rounds, since the recoil is actually quite a punch considering his small stature. If our squad returns fire through the door, they accidently kill the kid.
-DU Round: the group is for once greeted by a nice and corporative civilian, who freely let´s them search his property. He is the dish washer at the SHIVER station and lives alone. He coughs quite a lot, but tells them that´s normal. His apartment seems pretty decent, and he´s got no items connecting him with either KT or DN. He immediately tells them where he keeps his CAF and shows them his license. The gun is in the drawer, on safety. When they open the drawer, all ebons in the squad suddenly feels nauseated and temporarily loose 1 flux. It turns out he´s keeping an odd trinket, which his grandfather once dug out of a wall. The remains of a DU round
-Drive-by: when the squad moves outside from one block to the other they are hit by a KT drive-by. 3 shooters and a driver – no plates. After the first shot is fired the combat lasts for 2 rounds before the car takes a turn around the corner and speeds away.

-SLA OP: Mark Calvin, Human Kick Murder SCL 9c (or whatever outranks the squad), opens the door on chain, and arrogantly asks the group what they want. He demands to see the warrant, and points out that it clearly states “civilian block 1012/1013”, and thus not includes him. If they want in, they´ll have to do better – he slams the door in their face. A Detect check will tell an op with a fine sense of smell (Shaktar, Stormer, or Wraith), that the funny odor from the apartment is probably coming from the brewing of the DN drug Shatter – still, this info isn´t worth shit without a warrant.
-SLA OP. with warrant: When our squad returns with their new warrant, they walk into a trap. The entrance to the apartment is in the north eastern corner of the hallway (use the layout from Mort Sourcebook p51). There´s a kid of 8 years standing on the staircase that leads further up, smoking Coffin. When our squad knocks the door, he throws the smoke grenade he´s been concealing, and makes a run for it. Combat starts – remember, they can´t see shit, but the enemy knows where they are. There are targets at the NW door, SE door and dogged in the elevator, which has stopped on this level, making it a suitable foxhole. 2 KT at each location; kneeling, lying down or taking cover in the elevator + smoke obscuring and tight quarters – potentially nasty fight.

The slop has gone rogue and isn´t at the scene. They´ve tried to move as much as possible, but it´s still pretty clear that he´s been using his apartment as a Shatter-lab. You could make a grey follow-up, Hunter Sheet, or possible re-occurring adversary out of this guy – your choice.
-Downtown squalor: Put in as many miserable people and existences as you can. Show your players to the dark, dirty, rainy, depressive, crime and poverty ridden hellhole that is downtown. Picture yourself knocking doors in real-life Mogadishu – now pass on that feeling. Here are some suggestions. You don´t have to run each incident; some of them you might just run over and tell your squad about. Make stuff up that suit your style of play.
-Shots fired from upstairs floor. A husband has shot his wife, and then painted the bedroom wall with his own brains, as the squad is working downstairs. The wife is still alive, but deeply shocked and heavily bleeding.
-Crack fiend mom has dumped the rotting corpse of her baby in the hallway when it died of neglect and starvation.
-KnockKnock. “Come in, the door is unlocked”. A man living in his own filth and garbage is too lazy to get of the chair. The operative can help themselves, cause he´s kinda in the middle of something – tripping Personal Interest, watching porn, and spanking the monkey…while eating a jam-sandwich with the other hand.
-No one answers. The resident has been dead for about a week. Half eaten by rats and cockroaches. No sign of foul play.
-“My wife is having a baby!”. Rush out the door. Make a detect check. Odd medical condition…-she´s apparently giving birth to quite the load of drugs. The “couple” is doing their best act to smuggle the stash out from right under the squad´s nose.
-Empty apartment, except the chassis of some kind of motorcycle, which appears to have been tossed through the window…but this is the 17th floor. Make a SLA Info check. It´s a SCAF, crashed into the building. All but the chassis has been stripped. The serial number may still be pulled from it. The pilot´s relatives may finally be put at ease. Now they know their son isn´t just missing.
-Childs play. A new pastime for the kids in the slums. Jump into the elevator shaft and grab the cables. Slide your way down, pretending to be Deity deploying from a KillCopter. Only pussies fall to their death.
-Revenge: SHIVER Capt. Hyde Jefferson tries to strike a deal with the squad. He wants the KT district leader “Prime dOGg” snuffed. The station hasn´t got enough money to requisite a extermination BPN on him, so they´ll have to do it of the record. If you´ve introduced the team of colleagues they could also be in on it. “Prime” owns a whole floor (23rd) to himself in block 789. Jefferson suggests a joint operation between the SHIVERS and the squad(s). They´ll secure the entrance and exits, and our slops will do the target. As payment, Jefferson will write off 20-33% of the seized ammo from the report, making it disappear into the pockets of the squad.
Block 789: I´ve tried to make some suggestions towards the power level of this event, as can be seen below. Depending on the squad be ready to make adjustments; remember, this is a district leader. Even though the sector is being combed by slops and most of his gangers are in hiding, he´ll still be a tough fight – make sure the players don´t fell this is a walk-over. This may be a fantastic opportunity to befriend the SHIVERS – but also the fastest way to piss of KT. A thing to remember about this gang, is that each territory tends to battle each other for supremacy, so whoever steps up to take Prime dOGg´s position, might actually applaud the squad.
