Stage 1

Play out a Kafkaesque sequence in the Department of Transport as they try and see N'kth T'nch (Head of the Department) who always seems to be in meetings etc.
Eventually (after much waiting around) they see Mr. T'nch, an ageing Shaktar who is a veteran of Dante (and thinks he is still there). The team will be burdened with much useless equipment to take with them to map the subway and take structural readings (the equipment is fully automatic apparently). The main thing is no reading, no payment.

Stage 2

Team them up with a young Third Eye news reporter, Harold MacIntosh. he works in the historical issues newsroom and is full of useless facts about how the subway fell into disrepair. He wants to be an operative but just ain't got what it takes. He'll get in the way at awkward moments. Unfortunately for the team he is the nephew of a big-shot Third Eye reporter (hence how he got his job) and if anything happens to him then forget good media coverage in the future. Harold has an amazingly low cool rating and will run off at some point when things get really weird. Obviously the team will have to save him.

Stage 3: The subway plots.

Thresher/DarkNight have a secret base in the disused subway tunnels. They don't want the team snooping around.

War criminals use the tunnels as a hide-out from society. They're still fighting the war down there and anything that moves is the enemy. They may turn up in time to save the team from DarkNight or Thresher.
Throughout the tunnels the team finds traces of a silvery slime. This has been left by giant biogenetic slugs.

A mad religious group made the slugs and sends them throughout the tunnel system, spreading the slime. Why? Because they are being controlled by an insance necanthrope who has noticed that the pattern of the disused subway is the shape of a glyph. The slime channels flux energy. When the glyph is complete then the necanthrope will use the energy to summon a great leviathan from the depths of the Mort oceans. The necanthrope has discovered an ancient Mort legend predating the age of SLA about a giant sea creature known as the Leviathan. (Is it true, who knows) These slimed tunnels should be described in a very Alien(s) feel. A map of the subway system would be a useful visual aid. Draw over or highlight the slime tunnels and see if they notice the glyph coming together.

Eventually they escape the subway system. Did they remember all the readings they should have been taking? No? Well don't pay 'em a single credit then.

Possible follow-ups

If they didn't stop the slugs completing the glyph then have a mysterious accident destroy a huge part of the lower levels of Mort that are built over the ocean.

Let them follow up this by investigating the shadowy religious order. Other necanthropes may be involved, as well as members of Karma etc.
