New Equipment for the streets of Mort

Not too surprisingly, this section contains a variety of new armour, weapons and other equipment to make your Operatives drool, whine and write bad checks.

Some of the equipment in this section may be intended for use with rules variants detailed in the New Rules section of this web site, so if you don't recognize something, look there before you panic.

The Silent Demise-7 Heavy Pistol
Written by Peter Bogdasarian

The SD-7 heavy pistol is a brand new weapon from the company that brought you the highly innovative AGB Chopper! Although it fires regular, everyday bullets, we believe that you will find the SD-7 Heavy Pistol tailorable for your particular tastes.

It is chambered in the 10mm Rifle caliber, unusual for a pistol. This was made possible by the placement of a side-loading magazine mechanism, as the shells proved too large to fit into the grip and a top-loading magazine would interfere with vision and aiming. The caliber has a high recoil that may seem punishing to humans, but Shaktars and Stormers describe it as "quite pleasant" and "a reminder that you are firing a real weapon).

Perhaps the greatest feature of the SD-7 Heavy Pistol is the barrel extension. The barrel extension takes the length of the weapon to about that of the carbine and gives it incredible range and accuracy. Better yet, a bipod is also availible which interfaces to the weapon gyroscope, giving the weapon the absolute limit of sidearm range. A stock is also necessary to use the above systems. Currently, in addition to the basic folding-wire model, we offer several custom stocks by KARMA, made of biogenetic muscle, able to expand out to the size of a regular stock and custom fit themselves against the user's shoulder.

Another great feature is the gyrostabilization systemry. The SD-7 is fitted with small computer chips that keep the gun level and accurate when firing. This is the design stolen by Devil's Ministry Armaments for use on their own Panzerfaust pistol. The gyros have about a 5000 hour lifespan before needing recharging and need no additional programming or technical knowledge to implement, apart from an on switch. Activated gyros will be obvious, not only in the end to pesky, old-fashioned bobbing & weaving guns which never quite acquire their target, but also in a set of custom colored LED lights above the grip. The gyro's batteries are contained in the pistol grip.

The oversized reactive handgrip of the SD-7 will be immediately appealing to Stormers and Shaktars. Members of other races can purchase a refitted grip for use by races with smaller hands. (or suffer a -2 to hit).

The recoil of this weapon will probably mean that it will be biogenetically enhanced personnel using it, so the SD-7 has been made to work for those of a larger scale. Recoil baffling has proven problematic and is currently not possible on the SD-7.

MAC Vibro Knife
designed by Declan

Multi Angular Cutters up the ante with the MAC Vibro Knife, bringing extra power to the blade that's already at the leading edge of hand-to-hand weaponry. More penetration, more tissue damage, more style, more gore, and a 5,000 hour power-supply. All around, it's more knife for your credit.

DarkNight Analysis: SLA MAC Vibro Knife File No. 005637

As I theorized at the time of my original analysis of the MAC Knife, (ref: file no. 004279) MAC have produced a powered weapon incorporating the multi-angle razor lacerator production techniques used in the MAC Knife.
The MAC Vibro Knife oscillates at a lower frequency than most conventional vibro weapons in so as not to appreciably degrade the performance of the multi-angle lacerators. Nonetheless, the performance of the blade is increased dramatically. Cadaver and Armour tests indicate a 25% increase in tissue damage, and an improved penetration index, up by a staggering 200%.

Additional (Personal) to all Division Commanders:
The availability of this weapon to SLA Operatives in our urban opeartion zones should be communicated to our Operatives with as much haste as possible, in order to minimize the casualties we will doubtless suffer from this new weapon.

FEN 4044 Scout Armour
designed by Declan.

The first foray into the armour market for FEN in 200 years, the FEN 4044 Scout Armour is the culmination of 6 years secret R&D, started by the recovery of a cache of Killa Chassis design data, and represents a major leap forward in protection technology in the World of Progress.

The FEN Scout Armour suit incorporates the latest in stealth technology, including built-in EM and IR Masking, and the amazing new 'Steel Chameleon' reactive camouflage surface, allowing it's wearer to be invisible to both sensors and the naked eye.

The 4044 Scout Armour comes complete with the FEN Scout Helmet, modified with 'Steel Chameleon' coating, and has a variety of other equipment useful to scouts incorporated into it's design.

REACTIVE CAMOUFLAGE

'Steel Chameleon' Reactive Camouflage uses a web of video micro-sensors spread over the surface of the armour to record the armour's surroundings and adjust the surface coating of reactive polymers to match the colours, acting as camouflage. This only works when the armour is stationary, and the longer the wearer stays still, the better the camouflage.

Phases Immobile Minus to Detect

20 -2
30+ -3

In addition, the suit can have up to three pre-programmed 'decorative' patterns to show off the suit when you don't want to hide. Tie-dye camouflage, anyone?

IR MASKING

IR Masking is an improvement over the ECM Cape, in that it uses the 'Steel Chameleon' sensor web to measure the level of ambient IR, and selectively 'bleeds off' heat to match the wearer's heat signature to his/her surroundings. While activated, it makes the wearer undetectable to IR (IR sensors have no effect on visibility modifiers when shooting at the Scout). It disposes of excess heat with a coolant canister that will sustain two hours of useage during the day, or 1 hour at night. Replacement canisters are 2c each.

CLIMBING EQUIPMENT

Built into the Scout Armour are retractable climbing claws and toe-spikes, crampons, palm, sole and fingertip friction pads, 100m of nylon rope on an internal spool, and a detachable grapple and gauss-launcher powered by the suit's internal power supply. Together, these act to all intents and purposes as 'SLA Climbing Equipment' (SLA Indutries p.242). In addition, the claws and spikes can be used to in unarmed combat or martial arts attacks, and do Dam 2, Pen 1, AD 1.

OTHER BONUSES

The 4044 uses boron carbide micro-flywheels and an overpowered chassis with a 10,000 hour endurance to boost the wearer's speed in the same way that Silverback Armour (Karma p.131) does. While wearing the suit, the Scout gets a +3m/round bonus to his sprint movement rate, and the wearers hand-to-hand combat attacks have their PEN increased by 1.

DAMAGE

When a location has lost half it's ID or more, the Chameleon and IR Masking for that location cease to function until it has been completely repaired, at a cost of 5c per ID.

Note: non-scouts can purchase and wear Scout Armour, but cannot use the Reality Overlay functions of the Scout Helmet.

Supereality Reality Overlay CPU Upgrade and OS
designed by Declan.

Tangential Systems, in collaboration with FEN, present Supereality, the next generation in expert system Heads Up Display Technology. All the information you need is now available at the blink of an eye. Knowledge is Power!

FEN and Tangential Systems have developed a CPU Upgrade and enhanced 'Supereality' Operating System for the Scout Helmet's 'Reality Overlay' system, giving the system the ability to run additional second-generation expert system software.
The upgrade comes in the form of a new CPU chip, new System ROMchips and an armoured slug-port (which can hold up to three slugs), that must be factory retrofitted at a cost of 500c. There is currently a two-week waiting list for the upgrade, and a 48 hour turnaround, during which time the Scout will be without his/her helmet.

Once the upgrade has been installed, the Scout Helmet can run the new E^2 (Enhanced Expert) software, detailed below, wich come on special hi-density dataslugs. The system can only have one of the E^2 family of programs running at once. To switch between the slugs (maximum of three available), the scout must use one action to select the program from the menu, then wait one round while it loads, during which time neither program is running. For example, Animosity, Wraith Raider Scout, is running 'Name that Face', when he is attacked by the person he is trying to spot. Animosity has a DEX of 13 and acts in all five phases. On phase one of round one, Animosity selects 'TAD' from the menu: at that point, 'Name that Face' shuts down instantly. TAD will then be available on phase 1 of round 2.

Enhanced Expert Software Packages

TAD (600c)

TAD (Target Acquisition and Designation) software integrates the input from various targeting and sensor accessories available for the FEN Scout Helmet into one readout.
To run TAD, the Scout Helmet must be fitted with Radar, IR, Rangefinder, Rifle Targeting, Telescopic Imaging and a Motion Scanner.

The TAD Program uses fuzzy-logic routines to recognise and track targets (it will designate any humanoid, animal or droid larger than a basketball, or vehicle as a target and process tracking info for it), and uses the sensors to follow it's movement and adjust targeting info accordingly.

In practice, each target will appear in the Reality Overlay display outlined in neon colours, with range, movement vector, and a targeting leader-ball displayed next to it. The targeting leader-ball is the point at which the Scout must aim to hit the target, taking into consideration it's movement.

In addition, crosshairs are displayed indicating the point of aim for the weapon connected to the Rifle Targeting system, which has it's own status display including number of rounds left in the clip.

In addition, the software can recognize most current armour types and weapons, and will display that information next to the target. It will also select the colour for the image outline based on the percieved threat of the target, which it judges based on armour, weaponry and race: green for least threat, through bright red for highest.

In practice, TAD gives a blanket +1 to hit modifier out to the extreme range of the linked weapon, but this is not cumulative with bonuses from Laser Targeting. In addition, no shot from the linked weapon is counted as wild, and penalties for target movement and visibility (beyond bonuses gained from the sensors alone) are reduced by 1.

Name that Face (300c)

Name that Face is passive recognition software. When loaded, it constantly scans the faces of all humanoids within the Scout's field of view, and compares them to the 3-D models of faces loaded into it's memory (maximum of five target faces). When a face matches up, the person it belongs to is outlined in Neon, with their name and the associated info displayed next to them.
The 3-D models of faces are created from mugshots or other available images by a special program, included in the package, which can be run on an Oyster palmtop then loaded into the 'Name that Face' slug.

In practice, 'Name that Face' gives the Scout a +5 modifer to Detect rolls made to recognize or spot a particular person that is in the slug's memory when a detect check is required to do so (such as in a crowded bar). This bonus can me modified depending on the quality of the original image at the referee's discretion.

Virtual Navigator (200c)

Virtual Navigator is software for enhanced integration of data from a Navamap, which overlays 3-D navigation data in the Scout's field of view. It requires a Navamap to be fitted to the helmet, and uses special Navamap slugs which cost twice as much as normal, but which include extra information from the SLA Industries database.
If the Scout selects a destination, it will display continuous directions, with several options and details of their speed, reliability and risk factor.

The program will, on request, also display information on the ownership, purpose and inhabitants of each building in it's field of view, taking the form of colour-coded information 'written' on the side of the building.
In practice, Virtual Navigator gives +2 to navigation rolls in areas covered by the appropriate Navamap slug. Approximately 60% of Mort's surface has the new Navamap slugs available, and this percentage is increasing all the time as the databases are consolidated and updated.
