The conventional image of the transport that takes Ebons and Brain Wasters to the White, is that of a Black APC from Dark Lament. I wanted something a little different...
I've always seen it as a large black hearse, with running boards like an old car. The single driver is a Necanthrope called Gaunt, who looks vaguely like a zombie and is dressed in a grey suit, with peaked cap. He is always first seen holding the passenger door open for the soon-to-be Nec. As the Ebon walks towards the hearse, the Dream Demons rush around him, surrounding him, before disappearing inside the open door.
Inside the hearse is a Tardis effect. The large room the Necanthrope finds themself in normally looks similar to an old fashioned gentlemen's smoking room. Also there are the seven Necanthropes who are the Union that the Ebon will be joining. The only other item here is a fire place, whose flames are made out of the silently screaming faces of the Dream Demons. No one talks, although the oldest will motion towards the remaining chair if the Ebon doesn't take it. After an indeterminate amount of time, where the moving of the hearse is neither felt or heard, they will arrive at their destination and the Necanthropes will lead the way for the Ebon to the Cathedral entrance.
The actual number of alienated Necs is close to 1 in a hundred. Something about the White causes some to come back 'tainted' and the Union that the Necanthrope was due to join disown them. Other Unions won't accept them either. In game terms this is the Alienation Disadvantage. However up until they step in to the White everything happens as mentioned. Occasionally some are accepted back in to the society, but this is normally only after hundreds of years of trying to assist the society.
Very rarely (ie: 1/1000) an Ebon or Brain Waster will try entering the White themselves, often still alive. Most of the time the Nec won't survive. More often than not, they come back severely mutated and warped, with big psychological problems (yes, even more than most Necs...) Some of these Necs are banished from the WoP, some are put down, others are given key jobs in the WoP that only they can do, the previously mentioned Gaunt is one, Premature Burial is another.
