One of the least popular packages in Meny, the Medical Package suffers from a stigma of being the hardest package to graduate from and yet also a package that offers little chance of promotion after graduation. Many would-be Operatives choose instead to focus on I&I and Finance believing that this will help them get further in the company. They couldn't be more wrong. In recent surveys, those graduating with the Medical Package have a higher average salary than any other package. Those who study the Medical Package are often some of the brightest pupils of Meny and SLA Industries realises this even if no-one else does. One of the primary misconceptions of the package is tht it is just about healing people, whereas the actual scope of the package is much wider. The popular media image of an Operative tracking down a Serial Killer often implies that it is an I&I Operative undertaking the investigation. However in reality it is more than likely to be a Medically trained Operative.
The first area of training for Medical students is as would be expected, training in paramedic techniques. This coupled with analysising symptoms of illnesses and being able to diganose problems gives the Medic a suitable foundation for the rest of the course. Unfortunately many students find the work load in this first term too intensive and often transfer to other courses. The second term expands on this knowledge of the body by analysing causes of death. This is taught in conjunction with basic forensics knowledge, allowing students to extrapolate between information at a crime scene and hypothesised methods of death whether through obvious means (gun wounds for example) or more subtle tehcniques (break down of organs due to posions and toxins). Due to their medical background, their level of crime scene evaluation far exceeds that of a I&I trainee. The final term is spent analysing crime scenes for motives, trying to understand why the events occurred, even imagining themselves in the role of the killer to better understand them. This background in Psychology, invaluable in crime scene evaluation also helps the trainee understand people's actions much better in later life.
Upon graduation, many Operatives choose one of two paths. The majority work as normal Operatives, hoping to improve their diagnostic skills on the streets of Mort. Choosing mostly White BPNs, they can quickly find themselves in the media's spotlight after successfully tracking down serial killers, by understanding them better than any I&I Operative would be able to. This often leads to sponsorships with the Department of Investigation or the Department or Psychology and Psychosis. The other path available for graduates is to work directly in the science and medical fields, for example Karma or the Soul Institute. With their advanced medical training and by using psychology on those around them, they often find themselves rapidly promoted through the company. However, Karma especially prefers Operatives who have survived a time undertaking normal BPNs and so will often persuade graduates to work part time for them whilst still working for a squad. Although hard work for the Medical graduate, this often gives them best opportunities as they improve their skills on the street whilst also working at a science facility. They also tend to make a lot of money from juggling both sides effectively.
