Investigation & Interrogation Package

The Investigation and Interrogation package is one of the more popular packages taught at Meny. Its popularity stems from both the glitzy media image of I&I Operatives tracking down Serial Killers, to the belief that I&I Operatives are seen more favourably by Cloak Division and other Departments. I&I Operatives tend to come from very varied backgrounds, with the majority being from Uptown families where one or more of the parents are Operatives themselves. Additionally there are a lot of I&I Operatives who have a DownTown background, using their knowledge of the street to assist intheir Investigations.

The initial training given to all I&I Operatives is that of Crime Scene Investigation. As well as training in how to discover clues at a crime scene this also involves establishing links to additional information that teh Operative may know. A basic knowledge of crime motives and MO's is also included. The second term is spent developing the skills necessary to find further information about the crimes that have taken place. This includes background knowledge of the streets of DownTown and Suburbia such as who to ask, what to look out for and how not to be too obvious in these actions. It also includes an overview of the Rival Companies, so that Investigators can identify when a criminal is being influenced or assisted by an rival firm. The third term is spent learning how to get information from people or about people. As well as basic interview and interrogation procedures, this also includes an introduction to the policies and history fo SLA Industries.

On graduation from Meny, there are several career paths open to I&I Operatives. The most common is that they will begin normal Operative life undertaking BPNs. For the majority this is a good way to further improve their skills as well as giving them the opportunity to work on potentially important cases. Unlike the media portrayal of an Investigator, most of their time will be spent behind the scenes, trying to link together different clues to solve their current case. The actual hunting down of a criminal is usuaully only ten percent of the time taken on a case, with the rest of the time spent establishing who and why they are chasing the person in the first place. Those Operatives who are successful at this kind of work usually find themselves sponsored or working directly for the Department of Investigation. Alternatively some I&I graduates choose to work undercover missions, spying for SLA Industries either on company rivals, gangs or Operative Squads. Those who are sucessful in this line of work are paid well but have few friends they can really confide in. Inevitably they will end up working directly for Cloak Division or Internal Affairs.
