Stormers

Does anyone have hints on how to deal with Stormers in the WoP?

First off all Stormers (including Xenos and Chagrins, but not Vevaphons) are bred for War. There is nothing different in the structure and skills of an Operative Stormer and the majority that go to a War World. Stormers are picked at random to become Operatives and are carefully assessed over their first year to ensure that they would not be better suited on a War World. Stormers who retain a psychopathic nature, have little consideration for moral values and who do not try to improve themselves and become more than just fighting machines are carefully tested (through psychology tests and BPN circumstances) to determine if they should go to Dante, or work for Cloak/Ministry of War in clandestine projects. Stormers that are evaluated as this tend to have no further contact with their original squad (ie they become NPCs).

Those Stormers who prove that they are more of an asset to SLA Industries as an Operative than on a War World are then tested to ensure that they have still maintained their combat effectiveness. This can result in relatively harsh BPNs being forced on to the Stormer, particularly if the Stormer has been pursuing a more pacified lifestyle.

The continuous emphasis on combat that the Stormers brain is geared towards causes potential mental problems in the Stormer unless it has some way of regularly releasing its emotional overload. Normally a Stormer can cope with this as long as the BPNs that it undertakes forces the Stormer into combat or have a high enough death threat. If this is not the case then the Stormer needs to find another method of release, normally through drug/substance abuse or some other method. Stormers that have no-visible method of release are usually carefully monitored by Cloak Division and reports of Stormers who have turned serial killers have be known (although all such cases are kept out of the media).

An Operative Stormer has many problems in trying to live out its lifestyle. The predominant problem is one of acceptance into the general society. Stormers are known throughout the World of Progress for their loyalty to SLA Industries. With no reported cases of traitor Stormers in the history of the WoP, Stormers can often find themselves alienated in non Sla-areas such as DownTown. Although there has been a marked increase in DownTown gangs and companies targeting Ebb-users first in combat, when under attack it is usually the Stormers that are in the front line of any attack and with their monstrous appearance they are still more likely to take the initial brunt of any attacks. Additionally it seems that the gangs are well aware of the legendary rejuvenation that the Stormers have and as such will always use their heaviest weaponry against the Stormers. It is not unknown for gangs to decapitate fallen Stormers or burn them to prevent any rejuvenation and to guarantee that the Stormers have been killed. These attacks are also efficient in negating any possible LAD schemes that the Stormer may have saved up for.

So besides the above how do you cope with a drugged up Stormer player?

First off in JNFWoP, Combat and healing drugs don't affect Stormers. The only one that does is Karma KickStart. That way you get no UV using Stormers! There are Karma version of the drugs available but they are illegal for non-war-world Stormers. Penalty is being allowed to continue using the drug but in the environment it was meant for...

The next problem is what environment the Stormer is in at the time. Although most buildings in Uptown and Mort Central are easily large enough for them, those in DownTown are barely large enough for Humans, let alone a Stormer. Most gangs, realising this will try to make their bases as anti-large creatures as possible.

Another problem with Stormers is that they are often equipped in the heaviest armour and with the deadliest weapons, spending their money on little else. The way to beat these Stormers is to use their advantages against them. If they are wearing large armours, then gangs will either try to lure them somewhere that their armour will be trapped or too cumbersome, or they will work our ways of defeating or weakening the armour. CAF ammo is cheap and yet can do quite substantial armour damage. Some gangs even use gas canisters that can be blown up, destroying large sections of the heaviest armour. Large weapons can also be hampered by location. If the Stormer is using an assault rifle or larger weapon then attacks at close range will severely penalise them. Two drugged up Frother with Claymores are more than enough to take out a Stormer if they can get in range.

I agree that Stormers are not overly curious due to their design. JNFWoP Stormers have the equivalent of 150 pts of their character pre-programmed into them from birth, including basic combat training, knowledge of SLA Industries (and its rivals) and basic info in how to act in a human environment. The rest of their knowledge is taught to them in Meny or one of the many training schools on Artery. This knowledge can be rapidly downloaded to their brains in similar ways to their initial knowledge but it has been found that they are more able to cope with things outside of their training if they are given time to learn the skills properly.

Stormers in JNFWoP are taught skills for one main purpose and that is war. Not combat-any-time-any-place like the Frothers do, but knowing when to attack, when to retreat and most of all when to just wait patiently.
