Background: Born in upper Downtown at Clement Hospital, Harold came to a family of four as the first son. Father worked in one of the industrial complexes outside the Cannibal Sectors and was home three months out of the year. Mother was a receptionist with a small independent company, which recycled paper goods. His two sisters, one being twelve years his senior, other five, were seldom home as he was growing up. He believed that the men his mother brought home were 'friends' whom his father had asked to protect mommy at night. When he was six he was the one to find two pretty little cards left in his sisters' shared bedroom.
Mother was devastated and died the next day from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was four days before the neighbors realized what had happened and called the Shivers. Harold had sat with his mother's corpse gently caressing her hand until the skin had worn through. He was temporarily placed in the care of his uncle until the father could return and make the proper arrangements.
Harold continued schooling and stayed with his uncle during the times his father was working. He kept the one reminder of his mother, a small sliver from her hand sealed in a small plastic pouch. As he grew up he aspired to join the Shivers due to the kindness they had shown mother.
He excelled in his studies and with the few letters of recommendation he joined the Department of Shivers as an assistant to the Chief Medical Officer for the Division of Pathology and Autopsy. At this time Harold completely severed his ties to his family. He continued his education beyond the limited system offered to the civilian populace, in forensic sciences. His total time working with the department stretched to 17 years. Eighteen years before retirement Harold experienced a breakdown when he was informed that the bodies of his sisters had been found and were awaiting preliminary autopsy. They had been killed and preserved approximately the time they were taken. He was not allowed to perform the autopsy or have contact due to policy. His thoughts began to wonder to his mother. Upon resigning he took residence in the area of his first home and began to thumb and finger the piece of his mother he still had until it had worn out.
This began his quest to get close to his mother again. With his savings he purchased the tools he would need. At first his victims resembled his mother in one manner or another. The associations were loose at times, they could be physically similar, have the same kind of job, etc. He worked efficiently and never more than three time in one sector. Though he lost control of his impulses he still knew that to continue to be close to his mother he must work secretly and silently. He took their skin and the fatty tissue. He would sit in the tub caressing the skin and rubbing himself with the smooth fat endlessly.
He began to eat the skin he collected believing that her could know his mother better by having her in him. Soon he tried to put the skins on an slowly drew the conclusion that the skin was what he needed, the person didn't matter. His mother was the skin he took, she loved him no matter how she came. The victims began to vary until he settled on people approximately his height and weight typically male. He was able to sustain himself on money he took from his victims and by selling some of their valuables.
The investigators were often thrown for a loop. Harold's skills and knowledge made it nearly impossible to track and it sometimes appeared like their were either several 'good' copy cats or a cognate at work.
Harold continues his search for the love and caring he knows his mother would have wanted for him.
