Station Analysis

Station Analysis is predominantly used to monitor communications (coms, phone, computers) and low level (SCL8 or lower) Operatives who are chipped. All of the feeds come in on computer screens in unidentified packages which change every hour. Those who watch (called Screeners) are basically SCL11 Employees who have a set section of keywords, names, places that they have to look out for. Once any two of these criteria have been in a specific package they have a big red button under their screen to push and their package is then analysed by a supervisor and they get a replacement package. During their shift they also spend some of their time on the local switchboard attending to civilian calls for Shivers. As each package is unidentified (except by a 64 long alphanumeric string) it is unlikely that any Screener would be unable to identify the exact people involved (although sometimes they do, and people will crowd around the screen to watch their favourite squad of the month). There are no facilities for the Screeners to record anything. On the few occasions that Screeners see something they shouldn't, they are likely to be 'promoted' to a Voyeur (see later).

Behind the scenes of the Screeners are computers which record all of the various inputs, packetise them with a unique code and distribute them. The files are copied to a vast storage facility which is rumoured to be underneath Slayer's Tower. Also at this level are Supervisors who are IA trained Employees (normally with an SCL of around 8) who watch any packages that have been flagged by the Screeners. Whilst the current footage is on view the computer will also bring up any other files that involve the same people. It is the Supervisors responsibility to decide if more investigation is required into the situation based on what they see, previous events that have happened or just gut instinct. If this happens then they contact GhostWatch who take over the case.

IA has a sub-department with Station Analysis known as GhostWatch which monitors any and all transmissions from Finance Chips of Operatives over SCL8. This department is made up of former Screeners and other IA Employees who have biogenetic implants to allow them to monitor communications directly. These Employees are called Voyeurs. These implants are similar to the Finance Chip, in that they are a bio-genetic implant that interfaces with the brain. This combined with boosting drugs (think of an advanced form of Streak) allow for unparalleled monitoring of devices with each available package on a situation being uploaded directly into the brain. As with the Screeners the packets are given unique codes, although Voyeurs tend to be able to work out who and what they are watching almost immediately. Each Voyeur sits inside of a crib which feeds and maintains their bodies for durations of up to 72 hours at a time, before enforcing a 'system shutdown' for 48 hours. Then each Voyeur is given two days off before the cycle starts again. The breakdown rate of Voyeurs is higher than any other department in SLA and most end up in a cycle of depression and highs, preferring to remain inside their cribs. They are subjected to Psychological Evaluation every six weeks. It is the Voyeurs in GhostWatch who work with IA Operatives to follow situations and people for extended times, monitoring their every actions.

It is rumoured that IA has a GhoulWatch division as well. These are Ebons who have had ScienceFriction devices added to augment their capabilities. They are predominantly used for watching Ebb using Operatives and they can ascertain exactly which Ebb Abilities are used at any time. It is unknown whether only certain DeathSuits have the capabilities to be monitored of if they all have this capability.

All of the above info is classified as SCL 8.

More information on Voyeurs

The Voyeur can gain additional information on the subject that he is seeing through (heart-rate etc). The display also brings up other Reality Overlay devices as well (Chipped player looks at Video camera, Voyeurs view green outlines camera and displays 64 bit reference so that Voyeur can call up file and view image from camera in a small sub window at same time.) The V(oyeur)Chip is a bio-neural link to the computer that controls the packages. The computers name begins with a G for the Truth people out there. The link works through chippy links in the back of the neck. The Controller can view everything through a monitor display at the same time and all of the Voyeurs info is recorded so that it can be re-viewed.

The Voyeurs are able to cope with the avst amount of informationdue to their training and a drug similar to Streak which forces their mind to concentrate purely on the task at hand, their training enables them to be continuously thinking of past data which could be important as well as searching for better angles to get more information. Objectivity is handled by the Controller. The drug counteracts any brain overload for the 72 hours and then the 48 hour 'system shut-down' is to allow the brain to recover and sort the information properly. It is known for Voyeurs to come out of their 48 hours with the solution to a problem they have observed previously. Those that can undertake this kind of work with out going insane are highly valued by IA.

The VChip is a barrier device that overtime allows more and more info through at one time (starting Voyeurs can only cope with a direct FChip feed, advanced user could simultaneously manage two as well as supplementary info). The FChip transmits visual and audio only, although there is a rumour of an E(motion)Chip that can transmit more. Doppelganger currently have the copyright on the name, but they aren't releasing any info until at least 905SD. The FChip also transmits heart rate, respiratory etc and a good Voyeur can translate these to specific emotions.
